UGC NET Exam Date 2026 Out

Along with the official notification, the NTA confirmed the exam dates for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) June 2026 cycle. The examination will be held from 22nd to 30th June 2026 for all registered candidates. What is the UGC NET Exam?

UGC NET is a national-level examination designed to qualify Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Assistant Professorships, including eligibility for Ph.D. admissions in Indian colleges and universities.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the UGC NET 2026 exam, ensure you review the detailed UGC NET Eligibility Criteria. Key requirements include:

Educational Qualification

- Applicants must hold a master's degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university.
- Candidates with a 4-year bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 75% aggregate marks (5% relaxation applies for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD).
- Students in the final semester of their post-graduate program are eligible to apply.
- Qualifying exams must align with subjects in Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Science, or Electronic Science.
- General category candidates require 55% marks, while reserved category candidates require 50%.
- Ph.D. degree holders receive a 5% aggregate mark relaxation, provided their master's was completed by 19th September 1991.

  • Who can give the UGC NET Exam?
    The Indian candidates holding a Master's degree with at least 55% aggregate marks (or 50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Third Gender) and candidates who are appearing for their final Master's degree can apply and appear for the UGC NET exam.
  • How Many Attempts for UGC NET?
    There is no specific age limit on the number of attempts for the UGC NET exam, but there is an upper age limit of 30 years to apply for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

Age Limit 

Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Age Limit: Candidates must not exceed 30 years of age. 

- A 5-year age relaxation is available for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
- Candidates with an L.L.M. degree receive a 3-year relaxation. Armed forces personnel may receive up to 5 years of relaxation depending on service length.
- Total age relaxation cannot exceed five years under any circumstances.

Application Fee 

The UGC NET 2026 application fee varies by category and is non-refundable. Payments can be made via credit/debit card or e-Challan. Cash payments via e-Challan must be processed at the designated bank.

  1. General/ Unreserved- Rs. 1150/-
  2. General-EWS/OBC-NCL- Rs. 600/-
  3. SC/ST/PwD & Third Gender- Rs. 325/-

Applicable processing charges and Goods and Services Tax (GST) must be paid by the candidate in addition to the base application fee.

Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying to the Assistant Professor position.

Exam Pattern

The UGC NET 2026 will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of two papers. Both papers will feature objective-type, multiple-choice questions, conducted in a continuous session without a break.

No, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers in the UGC NET examination.

UGC NET Paper Details

Exam Mode: The entrance exam is strictly held in an Online CBT format.

Number of Papers: The test consists of two papers, Paper-I and Paper-II.

Question Distribution: There are a total of 150 questions: 50 in Paper-I and 100 in Paper-II.

Type of Questions: All questions in the paper are in multiple-choice format.

Language Medium: The question paper is provided in both English and Hindi.

Time Duration: Paper I is 1 hour long, and Paper II is 2 hours long.

Total Marks: Paper I carries 100 marks, and Paper II carries 200 marks.

Selection Procedure

Qualified candidates are selected based on a merit list determined by category and subject. The top 6% of candidates who appeared for both papers are declared qualified for the JRF and Assistant Professor roles. Additionally, the top 15% of candidates per category/subject become eligible solely for Assistant Professor positions.

Admit Card & Exam City

Before the exam, the NTA releases city intimation slips and hall tickets. Candidates must download their admit cards roughly 2–3 days prior to the scheduled exam date to gain entry to the testing center.

Answer Key & Responses

After the exam concludes, the NTA publishes the provisional answer key online. Candidates can review their answers and challenge any findings they disagree with. Following a review period, the board releases a final answer key.

Result, Cut-Off & Scorecard

Once the exam is completed and the answer key is finalized, the results are published online. Candidates can view their results by entering their roll number and date of birth. Only those who meet the minimum cut-off marks will progress to subsequent steps.

The scorecard, released alongside the results, provides essential details including candidate identification, subject-wise scores, total marks, percentage, and overall rank.

UGC NET Cut Off Marks
