Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification
- Applicants must hold a master's degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university.
- Candidates with a 4-year bachelor's degree must have a minimum of 75% aggregate marks (5% relaxation applies for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD).
- Students in the final semester of their post-graduate program are eligible to apply.
- Qualifying exams must align with subjects in Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Science, or Electronic Science.
- General category candidates require 55% marks, while reserved category candidates require 50%.
- Ph.D. degree holders receive a 5% aggregate mark relaxation, provided their master's was completed by 19th September 1991.
- Who can give the UGC NET Exam?
The Indian candidates holding a Master's degree with at least 55% aggregate marks (or 50% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Third Gender) and candidates who are appearing for their final Master's degree can apply and appear for the UGC NET exam. - How Many Attempts for UGC NET?
There is no specific age limit on the number of attempts for the UGC NET exam, but there is an upper age limit of 30 years to apply for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).
Age Limit
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) Age Limit: Candidates must not exceed 30 years of age.
- A 5-year age relaxation is available for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
- Candidates with an L.L.M. degree receive a 3-year relaxation. Armed forces personnel may receive up to 5 years of relaxation depending on service length.
- Total age relaxation cannot exceed five years under any circumstances.
Application Fee
The UGC NET 2026 application fee varies by category and is non-refundable. Payments can be made via credit/debit card or e-Challan. Cash payments via e-Challan must be processed at the designated bank.

Selection Procedure
Qualified candidates are selected based on a merit list determined by category and subject. The top 6% of candidates who appeared for both papers are declared qualified for the JRF and Assistant Professor roles. Additionally, the top 15% of candidates per category/subject become eligible solely for Assistant Professor positions.

Before the exam, the NTA releases city intimation slips and hall tickets. Candidates must download their admit cards roughly 2–3 days prior to the scheduled exam date to gain entry to the testing center.
Answer Key & Responses
After the exam concludes, the NTA publishes the provisional answer key online. Candidates can review their answers and challenge any findings they disagree with. Following a review period, the board releases a final answer key.
Result, Cut-Off & Scorecard
Once the exam is completed and the answer key is finalized, the results are published online. Candidates can view their results by entering their roll number and date of birth. Only those who meet the minimum cut-off marks will progress to subsequent steps.
The scorecard, released alongside the results, provides essential details including candidate identification, subject-wise scores, total marks, percentage, and overall rank.
UGC NET Cut Off Marks
The UGC NET 2026 cut-off marks are published online shortly after the exam. Separate merit lists for categories and subjects are generated based on these thresholds. Refer to the table below for last year's trends in cut-off scores.
