RRB ALP 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for RRB ALP 2026 must meet the specific educational qualifications and age limits prescribed by the Railway Recruitment Board. See the detailed requirements below.

Educational Qualification

Applicants are required to satisfy one of the following criteria:

  1. Matriculation / SSLC + ITI (NCVT/SCVT) in trades: Armature & Coil Winder, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Fitter, Heat Engine, Instrument Mechanic, Machinist, Mechanic Diesel, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Millwright Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic Radio & TV, Refrigeration & AC Mechanic, Tractor Mechanic, Turner, Wireman
  2. Matriculation / SSLC + Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trades above
  3. Three-year Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile
  4. Engineering from a recognised institution

RRB ALP 2026 Selection Process

The selection process for RRB ALP 2026 is multi-staged, following strict CEN 01/2026 guidelines. Candidates must note that RRB-wise vacancies are fixed, and selecting the correct RRB is a critical step in the application process.

Shortlisting for CBT-2: Candidates will be shortlisted at a ratio of 15 times the number of vacancies per RRB, based on normalized CBT-1 merit scores.

RRB ALP Exam Pattern & Syllabus

The RRB ALP 2026 selection process comprises three computer-based stages (CBT 1, CBT 2, and CBAT), followed by Document Verification and a Medical Examination.

CBT 1 Exam Pattern (Updated 2026)

The updated exam pattern for 2026 sees the removal of General Awareness from CBT 1. The paper will feature 75 questions focused on Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and General Science. CBT 1 serves solely as a screening phase and does not contribute to the final merit.

CBT 2 Exam Pattern

CBT 2 is an online assessment lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes. It is divided into Part A (Merit-based) and Part B (Trade-specific/Qualifying).
