The Department of Posts, Government of India, has officially released the India Post GDS 4th Merit List 2026 (Supplementary List IV). This recruitment cycle encompasses a grand total of 28,636 Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) positions under the January 2026 schedule, covering vital roles such as Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak across 19 postal circles. The latest supplementary list successfully confirms the selection of 4,458 candidates.

Shortlisted applicants must now prepare for the next critical phase of the engagement process. All selected individuals are mandated to report to their respective Divisional Office to complete physical document verification no later than June 23, 2026 (within 15 days of the merit list release). Please note that failure to attend document verification will result in the automatic cancellation of the application.

How to Check India Post GDS 4th Merit List 2026

  1. Visit the official website of the Department of Posts at www.indiapostgdsonline.gov.in
  2. Click on “GDS Online Engagement” and Choose “Schedule-I January 2026”
  3. Select your respective Postal Circle (State) on the homepage
  4. Click the link for “Supplementary List – IV” (4th Merit List)
  5. The PDF will open in a new tab circularly
  6. Press Ctrl + F and type your 7-digit Registration Number to find your name
  7. Download the merit list PDF and save it for future use.

Documents Required for Document Verification

Make sure to carry original documents along with self-attested photocopies to your designated Divisional Office:

  • Class 10 Marksheet and Passing Certificate
  • Date of Birth Certificate (as proof of age)
  • Caste Certificate (for SC / ST / OBC candidates), issued by the competent authority
  • EWS Certificate (for EWS candidates)
  • Disability Certificate (for PwD candidates), if applicable
  • Computer Training Certificate (for BPM posts), wherever applicable
  • Valid Photo Identity Proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, PAN Card, etc.)
  • Residence / Domicile Certificate
  • Passport-size photographs (recent)

Selection Criteria & Merit Calculation

There is no separate written test for India Post GDS recruitment. Selections are determined strictly by merit based on Class 10 (Secondary School) examination marks calculated to four decimal places. Grade points are converted using the formula: Marks = Grade Point x 9.5.

In case of a tie in marks, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied sequentially:

  1. Older candidate (higher date of birth / born earlier)
  2. Category reservation rules (ST Female → SC Female → OBC Female → EWS Female → UR Female, then ST Male → SC Male → OBC Male → EWS Male → UR Male)
