How is the GDS Merit List Prepared?
The entire India Post GDS 2026 selection process is strictly merit-based, ensuring transparency and fairness.
- Merit-Based Shortlisting – Candidates are shortlisted purely based on their Class 10th aggregate marks. Marks from all subjects in the 10th Board Examination are considered. If the board uses a grade-point system, it is converted using the formula: Marks = Grade Point x 9.5.
- Tie-Breaking Criteria – When two or more candidates share an identical Class 10th percentage (up to 4 decimal places), the following tie-breaking criteria are applied in order:
• Preference is given to the older candidate (higher date of birth / born earlier).
• If still tied, category reservation rules of the Government of India apply in this order: ST Female → SC Female → OBC Female → EWS Female → UR Female, then ST Male → SC Male → OBC Male → EWS Male → UR Male - Document Verification (DV) – Shortlisted candidates must report to the designated Divisional Head Office for Document Verification within 15 days of the merit list release. DV is the final stage before appointment confirmation
- Final Appointment – Candidates who successfully clear Document Verification are issued an appointment order for their allotted GDS post and division.
