WB SET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification
- Candidates must have completed their Master’s Degree OR equivalent Examination from Universities/Institutions recognized by UGC.
- Candidates from the General/EWS category must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in the Master’s Degree OR equivalent Examination.
- Candidates from Other Backward Classes(OBC) belonging to the non-creamy layer/ Scheduled Caste(SC) /Scheduled Tribe(ST)/ persons with disability(PWD)/ Transgender category have to secure at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent Examination to be eligible for this Test.
- The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level Examination had been completed by 19th September 1991(irrespective of the date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.
Note: Candidates currently pursuing their Master's degree or awaiting final results are eligible to apply. However, they must secure at least 55% marks (or 50% for OBC/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender categories) in their Master's degree or equivalent to be considered for an Assistant Professor position. Successful candidates must complete their degree requirements with the specified percentage within two years of the result declaration to remain eligible.
Age Limit

WB SET Exam Pattern 2026
The WB SET exam comprises objective-type, multiple-choice questions (MCQs) spread across two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- Paper I shall consist of 50 objective-type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks. The questions, which will be general, are intended to assess the teaching and research aptitude of the candidate.
- Paper II shall consist of 100 objective-type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks, which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate.
- The time duration for paper I is 01 hour, and paper 2 is 02 hours.
- For each correct question, 2 marks shall be awarded.
- There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
