Educational Qualification

In accordance with the UP Homeguards Service Rules, 1982 (Part 4, Rule 8), candidates must meet the following mandatory qualifications:

  • Intermediate (Class 12) or equivalent from any recognised Board or institution (for non-departmental civilian category / High School standard).

Preferential Qualification

Per Rule 9 of the regulatory guidelines, preference in the direct recruitment process will be granted to candidates who fulfill the following criteria:

  • Served in the Provincial Army for a minimum of two years, or
  • Obtained the NCC ‘B’ Certificate, or
  • Continuously served in a Home Guard organisation for a minimum of three years.

Age Limit (as of 01/01/2026)

The age criteria for applicants is 18 to 40 years. Age relaxation is applicable for SC/ST/OBC categories as per government mandates. Additionally, Homeguard volunteers with at least 3 years of service are eligible for a 2-year age relaxation.

UPSSSC Havaldar Instructor Selection Process 2026

The selection procedure for the Havaldar Instructor recruitment comprises several key stages, outlined as follows:

  1. Shortlisting for Main Exam: Based on normalised PET-2025 scores, up to 15 times the category-wise vacancies will be shortlisted.
  2. Written (Main) Examination: 100-mark objective paper (as described above). A merit list is prepared based on written exam scores.
  3. Physical Measurement Test (PMT): Qualifying nature; candidates must meet the height and chest standards specified.
  4. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Run of 4.8 km (men) / 2.4 km (women) within the stipulated time — qualifying only.
  5. Document Verification: Final verification of all certificates and documents.

UPSSSC Havaldar Instructor Exam Pattern 2026

  • The Main (Written) Examination consists of one paper with 100 objective-type questions, to be completed in 2 hours (120 minutes).
  • Each question carries 1 mark.
  • There is a negative marking of ¼ mark for every wrong answer.
