WBCS Eligibility Criteria 2026

The official notification outlines the mandatory eligibility criteria that all aspirants must satisfy to apply for the WBCS Examination 2025-26.

WBCS Nationality

According to the WBCS 2025-26 eligibility standards, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

(a) Must be a citizen of India (by birth or registration), or

(b) A national of other countries as recognized and declared eligible by the Government of India.

WBCS Education Qualification

For educational qualifications, candidates must hold a graduate degree from a recognized university. Additionally, proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Bengali is mandatory, except for those whose mother tongue is Nepali.

WBCS Age Limit (as on 01/01/2024)

The WBPSC has defined specific age limits for each service group. Detailed age requirements can be found in the official notification.

WBCS Age Relaxation

Candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories are eligible for age relaxation as per the government guidelines outlined in the WBPSC Notification.

WBCS 2026 Application Fee

The WBCS application fee is non-refundable. However, SC/ST candidates from West Bengal and persons with benchmark disabilities (40% or higher) are exempt from paying the application fee.

Steps to fill the WBCS Online Form 2026

Eligible candidates must complete their registration online. Please follow the steps below to submit your WBCS 2025-26 Application Form. 

Step 1: Visit the official WBPSC portal at https://psc.wb.gov.in/. 

Step 2: New users must click on the "ONE TIME REGISTRATION" link located on the right side of the homepage. 

Step 3: Complete the required registration fields to generate your unique registration number and password. 

Step 4: Use your credentials to log in via the "Login if Already Registered" option. 

Step 5: Input your educational details, age verification, and other relevant information required for the application. 

Step 6: Pay the application fee securely through the online payment gateway. 

Step 7: Review your application thoroughly and submit the final form. 

Step 8: Download and save a copy of the completed application form for your records. 

WBCS Exam Pattern 2026

The selection process for the WBCS exam consists of three distinct phases:

1. Preliminary exam
2. Main Exam
3. Personality Test

Please note that the marks secured in the Preliminary Examination are not included in the final merit list. Only qualifiers of the Prelims are eligible to proceed to the W.B.C.S. (Executive) Main Examination.

WBCS Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

1. The Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as a Screening Test only for the purpose of selection of candidates for the Main Examination.
2. The Preliminary Examination will consist of only one paper, viz., a paper on “General Studies”.
3. The paper will be of an objective type consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions. The paper will carry 200 marks and will be of 2½ hours duration.
4. The standard of the paper will be of the level of knowledge as expected of a graduate of any faculty of a recognized University.
5. The paper will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge:

WBCS Mains Exam Pattern 2026

1. The Main Examination shall consist of six compulsory papers and one optional subject consisting of two papers (Only for candidates applying for group A and/or B) to be chosen by the candidates from the list of optional subjects given below.
2. There will be two papers of the optional subject of 200 marks.
3. Each paper, Compulsory or Optional, will carry 200 marks and will be of 3 hours duration.
