The UPPSC PCS recruits Group A and Group B Officers for prestigious state administrative roles. The examination process includes three stages, and per the updated UPPSC Syllabus 2026, the two optional papers have been replaced by two specialized General Studies papers.

Marking Scheme For UPPSC Prelims Exam
- Paper- I will decide the cut off of the exam,
- Paper- II is qualifying in nature, candidates need to score 33% marks in paper II.
- There will be a 0.33% negative marking for every incorrect answer.
- For e.g., if the maximum marks allotted for a question is 2, then answering it incorrectly would incur a penalty of 0.66 marks
- Filling multiple circles on the OMR sheet for the same question would be treated as an incorrect answer and it would lead to negative marking.
- There is no negative marking for leaving a question blank.
UPPSC Prelims Syllabus 2026
The UPPSC Preliminary Examination acts solely as a screening test. Marks secured in the PCS and ACF/RFO Prelims do not contribute to the final merit list. The syllabus for this stage is largely aligned with the UPSC Civil Services exam curriculum.

- Indian and World Geography- Physical, Social, and Economic geography of India and the World: In World Geography only a general understanding of the subject will be expected. Questions on the Geography of India will relate to the Physical, Social & Economic Geography of India.
- Indian Governance and Polity: It covers details of Indian Polity, Economics, and Culture, questions will test knowledge of the country's political system including Panchayati Raj and Community Development, broad features of Economic policy in India and Indian CulturePolitical System, Constitution, Public Policy, Panchayati Raj, Rights issues, etc.
- Social and Economic Development: Sustainable Development Poverty Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.General Issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity, and Climate Change- that do not require subject specialization.

UPPSC Interview
The final stage is the Personal Interview, carrying 100 marks. Candidates are evaluated by a Board appointed by the UPPSC to assess their suitability for state administration.

During the personality test, candidates are expected to display not only academic knowledge but also an in-depth awareness of current national and international affairs.
