SSC MTS and Havaldar 2026: Exam Pattern, Syllabus, PET/PST & Rules

The Staff Selection Commission conducts recruitment for Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and Havaldar roles. SSC MTS Selection Process & Exam Structure

The SSC MTS selection process includes a Computer-Based Examination (Paper 1) for both Multi-Tasking Staff and Havaldar positions. Paper 1 is conducted online and consists of 4 core sections: Reasoning, Numerical Ability, English Language, and General Awareness. Additionally, a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) are mandatory specifically for the Havaldar post.

The SSC MTS Paper-I has a total of 90 questions and 270 marks. Paper-I is conducted in 2 Sessions (Session I and Session II), and both sessions are mandatory to attempt. Please note that not attempting any session will disqualify the candidate.

SSC MTS Paper-I Exam Structure

• Session 1: Numerical and Mathematical Ability (20 Qs, 60 Marks)
• Session 2: Reasoning Ability and Problem-Solving (20 Qs, 60 Marks)
• Session 2 General Awareness: (25 Qs, 75 Marks)
• Session 2 English Language and Comprehension: (25 Qs, 75 Marks)

Timing and Negative Marking Rules

Session 1 includes Numerical and Mathematical Ability and Reasoning Ability and Problem-Solving, with a total duration of 45 minutes for the session. Session 2 includes General Awareness and English Language and Comprehension, with a total duration of 45 minutes for the session.

The timing for visually handicapped and cerebral palsy candidates is 45 minutes for each session. Regarding accuracy and penalties, there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Session 2, whereas there is no negative marking in Session 1.

SSC Havaldar Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates applying for the Havaldar position must successfully clear physical measurement and endurance benchmarks.

SSC Havaldar Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

• Male: 1600 meters in 15 minutes
• Female: 1 km in 20 minutes

SSC Havaldar Physical Standard Test (PST)

• Male Height: 157.5 cms (relaxable by 5 Cms for Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas, and Scheduled Tribes)
• Female Height: 152 cms (relaxable by 2.5 Cms for Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas, and Scheduled Tribes)
• Male Chest: 76 cms unexpanded, minimum expansion 5 cms
• Female Weight: 48 kg (relaxable by 2 Kg for Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas, and Scheduled Tribes)

Language Options for Computer-Based Examination

The SSC MTS computer-based examination is administered in 15 languages. Questions in Session 1 and the General Awareness section of Session 2 will be set in English, Hindi, and 13 regional languages.
