Sahitya Akademi Award Winners 2023: Complete List for Yuva Puraskar & Bal Sahitya Puraskar

The prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award recognizes outstanding contributions to Indian literature and language. This esteemed award plays a crucial role in promoting and preserving India's rich and diverse literary heritage. The Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar specifically celebrates emerging literary talent across various genres, including poetry, short stories, novels, plays, biographies, literary criticism, history, and epics. Annually bestowed across 24 Indian languages, including English, the Sahitya Akademi Award honors works listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Instituted in 1955, the Sahitya Akademi Award is presented by the Sahitya Akademi, an autonomous organization under the Government of India. Each prestigious award includes an engraved copper plaque and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. These accolades recognize literary excellence across diverse categories such as Poetry, Short Stories, Novels, Plays, Biographies, Autobiographies, Literary Criticism, and Epic Poetry. Historically, it is noted that the first Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar was awarded to R.K. Narayan for his novel “The Guide” in 1960.
