The Preliminary examination comprises two primary papers:

  1. General Studies and General Aptitude Test. Both are objective (MCQs) types of paper.
  2. Both the papers consist of 200 marks each, and candidates are allotted 120 minutes or 2 hours for each paper.
  3. There will be no negative marking in MPPSC (State Service Exam) Prelims exam for wrong answers.

The MPPSC Mains examination consists of the following papers:

The first three General Studies papers are worth 300 marks each, while the fourth General Studies paper and the Hindi paper are worth 200 marks each. The Hindi Essay paper carries 100 marks.
