The exam is structured to evaluate candidates across multiple parameters, including linguistic proficiency, domain knowledge, and general aptitude. Administered strictly online as a Computer-Based Test (CBT), the test format utilizes objective-type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

CUET 2026 Sections Structure & Timing

The examination is split into four distinct sections. Candidates can take note of the language options and subject formats detailed below:

• Section IA – 13 Languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odiya, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, English, Hindi and Urdu)
• Section IB – 20 Languages (French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, Sanskrit.)
• Section II – 27 Domain-specific Subjects

Subject Selection Rules & Major Changes

Important modifications have been introduced to streamline the test-taking process. Candidates may now select a maximum of six subjects, a notable change from the previous limit of ten. Furthermore, total subjects are reduced to 37, with domain subject options capped at 29. Section IA & IB allow a maximum of three languages in total, where one chosen language can serve as a replacement for a domain-specific subject.

Marking Scheme

The overall examination carries a maximum of 800 marks. The evaluation awards +5 marks for each correct response, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect attempt.
